Room Parent

Welcome Guadalupe Room Parents! Since we have lost our Room Parent Google Site, we are moving all info supporting our Room Parent volunteers. If you have questions or would like to share information with the team on this site, please get in touch with [email protected]. One of the leads will respond to your email.

Room Parent Guidelines

Room Parents will receive an invitation from the GHSC Board to attend Room Parent Meeting in September. This meeting will be a great source to learn about the expectations of your role and how to gather info from the GHSC Board. Attendance for the meeting is not required for returning room parents. However, meeting new room parents allows seasoned room parents to have future support should things go sideways during the school year. Here are some critical guidelines covered in the training:

  • Teacher Planning Meeting for Year
  • Communication with GHSC Board
  • Reimbursement Requests
  • Classroom Party Planning
  • Grade-Wide Events and Celebrations
    • Third Grade: Reading Tailgate & Rat’s Fair
    • Fourth Grade: Gold Rush Day & Fraction Pizza
  • Teacher Appreciation Week

Here is the guideline doc that was presented at the Room Parent Meeting. —> https://drive.google.com/file/d/13akAqLL00cm-E-FiIcbLiV8BYhfdYLmR/view?usp=sharing

Teacher Favorite Things

Teachers and staff have filled out online questionnaires provided through GHSC Toolkit. This personal data provided by the staff is then used to create a Teacher Favorite Things flyer that parents can use when coming up with Gift ideas for a staff member. Room Parents can share this link to all the Favorite Things flyers —> https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1m8-eUiWZwwp1FHkpddmU6R4muyfn7MuM

If a staff member doesn’t have a flyer shown, you are welcome to ask the staff member to go to GHSC.NET/TOOLKIT and set up their flyer using the Teacher/Staff Form on GHSC Toolkit. Please note some staff members might request not to share this information.

Classroom Party Guidelines

Classroom Parties happen several times during the school year. Some grades have curriculum-based parties, and most celebrate common holidays and milestones. When you have met with your teacher, Room Parents will take the lead on planning the class party. You are not expected to be in person for every event. We strongly recommend deligating responsibilities to parents in your classroom by creating volunteer signups and donating items for parties. Here is a list of some of the parties during the school year:

  • Halloween Party
  • Holiday Celebration (typically the last day before holiday break)
  • Valentines Day
  • End of Year Celebration

Reimbursement Requests

Room Parents have access to the Class Celebration budget each year for $200. For SDC classes, the budget is $100. Room Parents sometimes help a grade with larger-scale events like Gold Rush Day or 3rd Grade Tail Gate; each event has a budget. Please consult with your teacher when claiming Grade Funds were used. Room Parents can recoup their purchases with the Reimbursement Request on GHSC Toolkit. Please read the instructions on the form and the instructions on the confirmation email you receive. ALL REIMBURSEMENTS HAVE TO BE APPROVED BY THE TEACHER.

Teacher Appreciation Week

Room Parents are tasked with organizing the whole week for their classroom. Some Room Parents are hands-on, while others delegate tasks to parents in the classroom. The week features task-oriented student gifts for certain days of the week, along with special treats being delivered to your teacher. A complete guideline for the week is provided in the Room Parent Guidelines. Here are some of the standard features of the week-long celebration:

  • Classroom Door Decoration
  • Teacher Favorite Drink Day
  • Teacher Favorite Lunch Day
  • Bring Your Teacher a Card
  • Brina Your Teacher Flowers
  • Class Gift Basket
